Alamo Colleges District

EMPOWERING DIVERSE COMMUNITIES FOR SUCCESS

Alamo Colleges District encompasses five independently accredited colleges, including Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, and Northeast Lakeview College. The Alamo Colleges District and its five colleges offer a wide range of courses and 2-year degrees, supported by state-of-the-art facilities resulting from a recent $450 million capital improvement project. The district’s credits also transfer seamlessly to four-year universities, allowing students to pursue advanced degrees, while its workforce development programs effectively cater to the needs of businesses and individuals seeking new career opportunities.

PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT

One of the primary areas of focus for the Alamo Colleges District is Career and College Readiness (CCR) programs. These programs aim to equip high school students with the necessary skills and knowledge to transition seamlessly into college or the workforce. As part of this initiative, the district offers a diverse range of partnerships, including Early College High Schools (ECHS), P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School), and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) academies. Currently, the district supports 19 ECHS, 13 P-TECH programs, and 6 STEM academies, which serve students across the region. Through these partnerships, students have the chance to earn college credits while still in high school, providing a head start on their higher education journey.

EVOLUTION AND FUTURE PLANS

In recent years, the Alamo Colleges District has focused on expanding P-TECH and ECHS programs to accommodate the evolving needs and demands of the local workforce. The district has experienced substantial growth in partnerships, with multiple ISDs coming on board to implement P-TECH programs. Alamo Colleges District has also adapted its advising model within the high school programs. To ensure that students are on a path of applicability as well as transferability, Alamo Colleges provides dedicated advisors specifically for high school programs so that students receive personalized support to make informed decisions about their educational and career pathways. This approach not only saves time and costs for families but also helps students navigate their educational journey with confidence and purpose.
